CAIRO- ’s ruler, al-Maktoum, on Saturday launched a national programme for coders that aims to establish 1,000 tech companies and increase start-up investments from 1.5 billion dirhams ($408 million) to 4 billion dirhams ($1 billion).

The programme, which is being run in cooperation with Google, Microsoft, Amazon AWS, Cisco, IBM, HPE, LinkedIn, Nvidia and Facebook, is aimed at training 100,000 coders and establishing tech companies that will go global.

“The new programme represents a new step towards establishing our digital economy. The world is rapidly changing and the fast-growing digital economy will create new types of jobs,” Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter.

The programme will operate under the supervision of the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office and will focus on supporting coders, entrepreneurs, start-ups, large companies and the academic sector and developing a comprehensive platform for promoting engagement and links between coders and local companies and universities.

The programme will also help launch global skill development initiatives featuring international trainers to boost the effectiveness of local talent. The aim is to attract the best international coding professionals to the UAE and recommend policies to foster the development of the coding sector in cooperation with various government organisations.

The programme will also grant golden visas to 100,000 entrepreneurs, owners of enterprises and start-ups specialised in coding.

This initiative is available to both residents and non-residents of the UAE, in an effort to attract the best-qualified coders and graduates specialised in the field of coding.

The UAE is hoping for the establishment of 1,000 major digital companies in the country over the next five years, to build the country’s digital market and prepare the necessary infrastructure to yield innovation and creativity that can keep up with the rapid global changes across various vital industries.

“The UAE is open to those who wish to be a part of the country’s success story by leveraging their talents, capabilities and expertise, as well as for those who believe in the importance of science, technology, and innovation when it comes to shaping the future we seek for the next generations,” said Sultan al-Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.

He added that providing this opportunity for coders to obtain the UAE golden visa is designed to attract and encourage the top international skillsets and talents in the field of coding. Moreover, it would provide excellent services and support systems that promote work and innovation in the UAE to bring about the nationwide creation of new start-ups and enterprises specialised in coding.

Coders of all nationalities and age groups may apply for the UAE golden visa through The Office of Artificial Intelligence in the UAE government or the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.
