Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - It wasn't the only time it happened, according to witnesses.
A 57-year-old Arab teacher has been accused of molesting an 11-year-old girl in Sharjah, records at the public prosecution showed. He would regularly come to the girl's house for private tuition. In one incident, when family members were not around, he allegedly kissed the girl and asked her to sit on his lap.
It wasn't the only time it happened, according to witnesses.
The 11-year-old's younger sister claimed she saw how the accused would always ask her sister to come closer to him and touch her body. The family's maid also confirmed that she witnessed the defendant groping the girl but couldn't do anything about it because she was busy with chores.
When the kid's mother learnt about what the teacher was doing, she was shocked because she trusted him. Their family had known the man for eight years, she said. She didn't think he could do it to her little girl.
The mum then filed a case at the Sharjah Police station.
The accused, on the other hand, denied the allegation, saying he was just trying to be nice to the girl and encouraging her to be interested in the lessons. He added that he was only "behaving like a father".
He then asked the mother to check the CCTV footage for their house, although he knew there were no cameras installed, records showed.
