Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - The 18-month-old boy was playing behind a parked car.
A 18-month-old Syrian boy succumbed to fatal injuries he received after an Emirati motorist accidentally ran over him on Saturday morning.
Alerted of the tragic accident, the central operations room of the Fujairah Police dispatched a traffic patrol, an ambulance, paramedics and rescue teams to the reported site in record time.
"The boy was playing behind a parked car at Dibba Al Fujairah," sources told Al Khaleej Today on Sunday.
"The driver drove back without noticing the little boy behind that he was smashed under the car."
"The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital, but he was unfortunately declared dead," they added.
"Parents should always keep an eye on their children, and never leave them unattended at this young age."
Drivers were also urged to make sure that none is behind them while reverse parking.
"So many kids were killed in similar run-over accidents nationwide."
"Reverse parking is always advisable to avoid such tragic accidents," said Mohammed Salem, a safety engineer.
"All drivers need to be more vigilant of their surroundings while driving their vehicle in a parking lot," he added.
"Some residents here have run over their little kids while reversing without noticing that they were playing or walking behind."
Earlier in April this year, a 17-month-old Arab girl died after she was run over by a neighbour's car next to her family house in the Maliha area. The police said that the neighbour didn't see the girl, and never expected a little child of her age to be outside by herself.
