Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - The four-day event showcased the latest medical equipment, technologies and services in the global healthcare industry.

The highly anticipated Arab Health opened for its 45th edition in Dubai on Monday, with participation from more than 55,000 healthcare and trade professionals and around 5,000 companies from around the world.

His Highness Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, toured the exhibition on the opening day, going around various pavilions and meeting senior officials.

Set to run until Thursday, the four-day event showcased the latest medical equipment, technologies and services in the global healthcare industry.

Sheikh Mohammed first stopped by the GE pavilion and met with its officials. Then, he visited Draeger Medical GmbH, Siemens, Phillips, the Abu Dhabi Health Authority, and the Dubai Health Authority, where he was briefed about different products and services.

Ross Williams, exhibition director of Arab Health, said: "Last year, more than $824 million worth of business was generated by exhibitors at Arab Health, denoting a year-on-year increase of 5.9 per cent."

The UAE's economy was bolstered by the business tourism that the show generated, while the healthcare industry in the region benefitted from solutions that address diseases such as diabetes, obesity and cancer.

Among those presenting their landmark initiatives is the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha).

Dr Gareth Goodier, group CEO of Seha, said: "This year, we are excited to present the latest addition to Seha's network - the Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. With our ground-breaking joint venture with Mayo Clinic, this is a milestone project that is set to have a transformational impact on healthcare delivery in the UAE and wider region."

Innov8 Talks

Arab Health's Innov8 Talks agenda also opened on Monday, with eight innovative SMEs and entrepreneurs presenting their latest healthcare ideas.

Williams said eight companies will present on each day of the show, with the final day hosting a 'pitch-off' to a select group of judges.
