When it comes to great images of space, we are more familiar with those taken by astronauts or famous probes or telescopes like Hubble, but the wonderful new image, taken by a photographer on Earth, captured astronauts doing a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS).
According to RT, the image, taken by award-winning German photographer Sebastian Voltmer, is believed to be the first image from Earth of two astronauts on the International Space Station walking in space.

American astronauts Raja Chari and German Matthias Maurer were spotted as they walked in space for six hours to install a camera and perform maintenance and upgrades.
What made it even more convenient was that it was taken from Maurer’s hometown of Sankt Wendel in Germany. Voltmer, whose astronomical image has been shown in galleries at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, and the Carl Zeiss Planetarium in Stuttgart, described the image as “once in a lifetime”.
He posted the photo on Twitter last month, writing: “Yesterday I watched a spacewalk shortly after sunset. Here comes the first photo. #ESA #astronaut Matthias Maurer was “climbing” at this moment.
When he took the photo, Voltmer said, he quickly showed German media how Maurer had spotted it, and it went viral.
This image of the passage of the International Space Station was taken on March 23, 2022, under good viewing conditions through the C11 EdgeHD telescope.
This may be the first Earth image showing two astronauts on the International Space Station at the same time.
Although Voltmer’s photo is believed to be the first Earth-based photograph of two astronauts on the International Space Station walking in space, in 2011, photographer Ralph Vandeburgh also took pictures of US astronaut Steve Bowen while he was walking in space.
At first, Voltmer discovered Maurer only in his picture, but after he took a little longer to analyze it, with the help of another well-known photographer, Philip Smith, he saw Chari as well.
Voltmer used a Celestron 11-inch EdgeHD telescope on a GM2000 HPS mount, and an ASI290 planetary camera to get the shot.
