Yesterday, Wednesday, December 29, the International Astronomy Center in Abu Dhabi was able to photograph the James Webb Space Telescope from the sky of the Emirates, using the main telescope at the Seal Astronomical Observatory. To its orbit located 1.5 million km behind the Earth in relation to the Sun.

Engineer Muhammad Shawkat Odeh, director of the center, said that the space telescope was filmed at ten o’clock in the evening, UAE time, at a distance of 580,000 km from Earth, and it is currently shining from 15.5 degrees, and the space telescope appears in the video as a white dot moving between the background of the stars, and the video clip consists From 11 frames collected to show the movement of the telescope, each frame is a 3-minute image taken by the Seal Astronomical Observatory.

After its launch, the James Webb telescope flew over the Atlantic Ocean and then Africa until its final separation at an altitude of 1,400 km and at a speed of more than 34,000 km per hour, and cameras placed in the upper layer of the rocket showed this separation, especially the deployment of the telescope’s solar panels after a few seconds.

NASA is supervising the precise operations of placing the telescope in its exact location, before it reaches the “Lagrange 2” point, 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. As for the mission of scientific exploration of the universe, it will begin within six months.

It is noteworthy that the James Webb Space Telescope is a space telescope developed directly by NASA, the European Space Agency and its Canadian counterpart and planned to succeed the Hubble Space Telescope in the framework of NASA’s “Flagship” mission in astrophysics.

The James Webb Telescope, which was launched on December 25, 2021, provides improved accuracy and sensitivity that surpasses the Hubble telescope, and will enable a wide range of investigations in the fields of astronomy and the universe, including the observation of some of the most distant astronomical events and objects in the universe such as the formation of the first galaxies and the detailed characterization of envelopes Atmospheres of planets outside the solar system that are likely to be habitable.

The James Webb Telescope’s primary mirror, the telescope’s optical element, consists of 18 pieces of gold-plated beryllium hexagonal mirrors that combine to form a mirror with a diameter of 6.5 meters (21 feet), much larger than the Hubble mirror, which is only 2.4 meters.
