WhatsApp has announced that some smartphones running an outdated operating system will become incompatible from November 1.

The platform requires devices running Android 4.1 and later, iOS 10 and later, or phones running KaiOS 2.5.1 or higher, which includes JioPhone and JioPhone 2.

The platform bans millions of phones in the next week, affecting iPhone and Android users. The FAQ page says: The service no longer supports Android phones running OS 4.0.4 and earlier on November 1, 2021.

And the FAQ continues to talk about iPhone users, noting that the app now requires iOS 10 or later. After November 1, the platform is blocked across devices that have not been updated. As devices can no longer support the app.

iPhones that cannot be updated after the release of iOS 10 include the iPhone 4S, iPhone SE, and iPhone 6S.

Samsung devices that will not support the service include the Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy Xcover 2, Galaxy Core and Galaxy Ace 2.

You will not be able to use the Platform with this LG Lucid 2, Optimus F7, Optimus F5, Optimus L3 II Dual, Optimus F5, Optimus L5, Optimus L5 II, Optimus L5 Dual, Optimus L3 II, Optimus L7, Optimus L7 II Dual, Optimus L7 II, Optimus F6, Enact, Optimus L4 II Dual, Optimus F3, Optimus L4 II, Optimus L2 II, Optimus Nitro HD, 4X HD, Optimus F3Q.

The list includes iPhone and Android phones

If you own any ZTE devices, you will not be able to use WhatsApp on these phones. Grand S Flex, V956, Grand X Quad V987, and Grand Memo.

And you need to upgrade your device if you own any of these Huawei smartphones Ascend G740, Ascend Mate, Ascend D Quad XL, Ascend D1 Quad XL, Ascend P1 S and Ascend D2.

You will not be able to use the platform with these Sony smartphones Xperia Miro, Xperia Neo L and Xperia Arc S.

Other Android devices that will not be compatible with WhatsApp include:

  • Alcatel One Touch Evo 7
  • Archos 53 Platinum
  • Caterpillar Cat B15
  • Wiko Cink Five
  • Wiko Darknight
  • UMi X2
  • Run F1
  • THL W8
  • Lenovo A820

And if you’re using any device from this list, the service will stop working from November 1 onwards.

You need to take a backup via Google Drive or iCloud and restore it on a new compatible device to continue using WhatsApp.
