Microsoft buys the Kojima Productions studio? The fake news of the weekend

It didn’t take long before the web ignited in front of a scan of a magazine written in Spanish. One article in particular ignited since it announced the takeover of the Japanese studio Kojima Productions (Metal Gear Solid V, Death Stranding,…) by Microsoft. I have to say that the American manufacturer has the wind in its sails since its numerous acquisitions over the past two years, with the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, and therefore of Bethesda Softworks, for 7.5 billion dollars as a culmination.

Only here, the page that quickly circulated on social networks is actually from the Spanish magazine Hobby Consolas. So far all is well except that according to readers who have had the chance to get their hands on the latest issue, this article was actually written in a very specific section since it is the one that encompasses parody information on the world of video games. A voluntary fake news in other words, which will soon appear stripped of its context in many tweets since this morning.

It must be said that we quickly had doubts about the veracity of the information, so much Hideo Kojima is reluctant to develop on Xbox media in recent years. This observation is all the more visible since the studio has emancipated itself from its historic publisher Konami. At least let’s hope that the Japanese creator changes his point of view with the arrival of the Xbox Series X / S.
