Our 5 free and paid Android / iOS apps of the...

Like every week, I’m going to tell you about 5 free or paid applications and mobile games that are worth seeing on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. To my own findings on the app stores, I also add the pearls unearthed by the NextPit community and shared on our forum.

From mobile games to productivity apps, here are the 5 free and paid Android / iOS apps that stood out to us this week at NextPit.

Chai, to empty your bag

Chai is an app that I accidentally discovered while hanging out on Reddit. According to its developer, the concept is simply to chat with strangers via a chat and empty your bag, talk about your worries or just take your mind off things.

“I graduated from college this summer and moved to a new city for my job. I’m pretty much alone in this new city and it’s next to impossible to make new friends right now because of the situation. pandemic. […] I often felt like I wanted to talk to someone to make me feel better, but it’s really hard to get in touch with people because they feel like they’re still living their lives and not. not have time for you, ”says the developer in his Reddit post.

Chai is an early access (beta) app and its interface is very simple, minimalist. You must have an email to create an account and the app advises you to use a “trash” email since it collects addresses and wants to avoid releasing them to your identity (I find the “part” protection of privacy “rather dubious in the T & Cs).

You can then just start a chat, and wait for a famous stranger to answer you. I was personally lucky and after about twenty minutes I was able to have a pretty nice exchange with a user that I even managed to convert to OnePluséïm!

Solid Explorer, an ultra-comprehensive file manager

Solid Explorer is an application that I was able to discover through a selection of XDA Developers. According to the site, it is THE best explorer and file manager app on android.

Personally, I’m perfectly happy with the native file manager on every smartphone I test, and I usually don’t spend too much time digging through my folders.

But, if your smartphone’s native option doesn’t cover all of your needs, or you just don’t have one, then Solid Explorer may be worth a look. The app has built-in encryption to encrypt your important and essential files, it integrates Google Drive and Dropbox, it allows you to connect to your own external server, it facilitates file management and allows you to explore other partitions on your device with root access.

The only catch is that you have to pay a single license to be able to use it, but for the power users among you, the sum of 2.99 € (and temporarily 1.99 € at the moment) in maybe worth the candle. Either way, you have a 14-day free trial period to get an idea.

LastPass, to keep all your passwords

According to the ranking of NordPass, a password manager, “123456” is still the most used password in the world.

If you are not part of this majority of Internet users just waiting to have their accounts hacked, you probably already have your own system to keep all your passwords in case you forget them. But if they don’t or if, like me, you write them down on your phone in the “Note” app and want to go with a more secure solution, LastPass may be right for you.

LastPass handles everything for you very easily and generates unique and complicated passwords that people and machines cannot guess. The app also offers a “safe”. In your LastPass Vault, you can store passwords and login credentials, create profiles for online purchases, generate strong passwords, store personal information in notes, and more.

All you need to do is remember your LastPass master password (which is ironic, especially if you forget it or need to store it somewhere other than LastPass), and LastPass then takes care of pre-filling your credentials in your web browser and apps.

MO: Astray, an aesthetic puzzle game

MO: Astray is a beautiful side scrolling action puzzle game. Phew, that’s a lot of keywords and anglicisms in one sentence. Concretely, it is a PC game at the base recently ported to Android which consists of moving in an environment strewn with obstacles and which scrolls horizontally on the screen as you progress.

It has a little Metroivania side, with puzzles to solve to move forward. Visually, I really like the atmosphere and the settings. The gameplay absolutely doesn’t reinvent the genre, but that’s not what the game is asked to do either. Support for Bluetooth controllers is also a big plus. The game is worth, in my opinion, its 5.49 euros.

You can buy the MO: Astray game for € 5.49 from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Underworld Office, a multiple choice narrative game

Underworld Office a narrative and interactive game whose story is told through a chat on a messaging application. Your choices during the adventure will have consequences on the unfolding of the story and its conclusion. Enough to allow a certain replayability and thus make profitable the 3.19 € that you have to pay to acquire the game (a freemium version also exists if you wish).

Concretely, the game has 7 scenarios (or scenarios for the purists, it is not only the anglicisms which can interfere, eh) with as many alternative endings. You play as Eugene, the protagonist, who accidentally finds himself in the ghost world. As Eugene is about to be killed by monsters, a strange ghost comes to his aid and asks him in exchange to work at the Office of the Beyond …

Each twist comes in the form of a message you receive. As you move the conversation forward, you develop the story interspersed with around 40 animations and nearly 150 illustrations.
