What’s new in iOS 14.3: ProRAW support for iPhone 12 Pro,...

Apple briefly released the first beta of iOS and iPadOS 14.3 this afternoon before pulling the updates again. However, while the software was available, some users were still able to download it and have looked at its features.

ProRAW support

Like on the MacRumors Forums, iOS 14.3 introduces the ProRAW format for the iPhone 12 Pro and ‌iPhone 12 Pro‌ Max. Apple introduced ProRAW when it announced the new iPhone 12 series, but said it would come at a later date.

ProRAW is designed for those who prefer to shoot in RAW, but also want to take advantage of Apple’s image pipeline data such as noise reduction and multiple exposure settings.
The ProRAW function can be activated in the Camera section of the Settings app for those who have installed iOS 14.3 Beta on a new ‌iPhone 12 Pro‌ or Pro Max. When this option is enabled, there is a RAW switch in the top right corner of the Camera app that you can tap to toggle it on or off.

Photos taken with ProRAW are approximately 25MB in size. As a result, photographers may want to use this feature sparingly if iPhone storage space is an issue.

Third-party app suggestions

In addition to ProRAW support, the update also appears to add suggested third-party apps. According to 9to5MacThere’s code in iOS 14.3 that states that Apple will show third-party app options to those who upgrade to the software.

These app suggestions are only provided in some countries where local laws require it. As a result, users in the United States may not see a third-party app menu. It’s not entirely clear in which countries the app suggestions are shown, but in those countries the following message is displayed: “In accordance with regional legal requirements, apps still available for download are shown.”

Health app

The health app seems to have a new section on pregnancy.

Controller support

iOS 14.3 provides support for the new PlayStation DualSense Wireless Controller, which is part of the PlayStation 5, and the Luna controller for Amazon’s gaming service.

App-Clips

According to Apple’s release notes, app clips can be launched by scanning app clip codes with the camera or from the Control Center.

Standardsuchmaschine

Ecosia can now be set as the default search engine as an alternative to Google, Yahoo, Bing and DuckDuckGo. Ecosia allows users to fund tree planting when searches are carried out.

Home App

The Home app seems to have new notifications when updates are available for accessories. This indicates that some HomeKit accessories may be able to be updated through the Home app in the future.

Cardio Fitness

Code in iOS 14.3 confirms a new Cardio Fitness function for the Apple Watch. “Apple Watch can access your cardio fitness, a powerful indicator of overall health. To enable estimations outside of a workout, activate wrist detection. ”

Cardio fitness levels are available to users 20 years and older and are estimated by age. Apple sends Cardio Fitness notifications from the Apple Watch to the “iPhone”.

Weather

Air quality health recommendations are provided at specific air quality levels in the US, UK, Germany, India, and Mexico. The air quality data is provided by Breezometer. Air quality data is now also available in China.

AirPods Studio

There is an icon in iOS 14.3 that may indicate the design of the AirPods Studio.

Find mine

Code in iOS 14.3 suggests that Apple is laying the foundations for adding support for third-party item trackers to the Find My app, as well as additional support for AirTags. Third-party item trackers and Bluetooth enabled items can be tracked using the Find My app, and it appears that the first items with this feature may be launching soon.
