The next-gen version of MyTeam from NBA 2K21 looks strong.

It’s been a bad year for me as it’s MyTeam from NBA 2K. It’s not that the mode isn’t good this year. On the contrary, it’s more concrete than ever and the switch to a live service was a plus overall.

However, the lack of a salary cap mode still kept me from keeping up with the regulations for MyTeam Limited, a little more than I want to worry about – especially when you consider that you still need to maintain a decent level of knowledge of new ones Cards etc.

However, recent ads for the Possessed series use next generation footage to bring out the latest cards. The renderings, arenas, and lighting mostly look fantastic. Take a look:

The portrayals of Vince Carter, James Harden and LeBron James are phenomenal. I finally see an adequate weight on Harden’s frame, although that middle section should be a bit wider.

The LeBron block animation is superb too, as he hits some pretty insane heights with his punch from Steve Nash in the short video. I also like the dishes, which seem exclusive to the next generation MyTeam. Only 10 days left to the launch of Xbox Series X | S, I would expect to see all of the features of the next generation hardware in the coming week.

The only one of those videos that isn’t attractive is the last one with Tracy McGrady. That looks way too much like NBA Live, and that’s a bad thing.

It’s not about the copying, but the fact that 2K’s graphics have always been more impressive than Live’s. So it makes no sense to steer the artistic style in this direction. This is the second look I’ve seen that sparked thought of EA’s young Hoops series.

2K would be wise to stay away from anything to do with the artistic design of this series. There are a few things from the NBA Live series that are cool to emulate or take inspiration from, but player rendering isn’t one of them.

Still, these previews rekindled my interest in the mode. With no salary cap, I’m not sure how long I’ll stay interested, but there is a pulse.
