Mike “MikeZ” Zaimont, the founder of Lab Zero games on charges of abuse by former employees and gamers, has been banned from working on a Guilty Gear update by Arc System Works.

Gamasutra learned of the suspension through a statement from Arc System Works representative Takeshi Yamanaka. The project was https://twitter.com/ArcSystemWorksU/status/1317011643851710466 to the Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R. is operated by a group of community developers known as Team French CaliBurst.

“Arc System Works has now agreed with Team French CaliBurst to suspend MikeZ’s participation in the development until he has clarified the outstanding questions.”

According to Yamanaka, Zaimont was hired to work on the project at the request of the French team CaliBurst. This came about shortly after he fired the remaining developers at Lab Zero Games.

Yamanaka said that Zaimont was hired on the basis that he “would eventually resolve the charges against him.”

“Arc System Works has a strict policy of not tolerating any illegal activity, harassment, violence or discrimination in any way or form,” he said.

Yamanaka confirmed that Zaimont was working on the update through October 24th. Given this point in time, it is unclear why Zaimont was allowed to participate in the project if his previous alleged behavior led to his suspension.

We asked Yamanaka about this decision in a follow-up question. He replied, “The decision was made on the basis of providing the best service to our users and giving users the highest priority. In the ultimate interest of our fans waiting for the GGPO update, we express our greatest regrets that we have chosen. ”Overlooked certain aspects of our harassment policy. ”

“We expect MikeZ to resolve the allegations against him in good faith. Now that development has reached a milestone, and with you [outreach]We thought it would be a good time for MikeZ to work towards a solution. ”

This was not the beginning of Zaimont’s involvement in the GGPO implementation project. Yamanaka announced to Gamasutra that Zaimont Arc System Works was aware of the project and was working to establish a business relationship between the company Guilty equipment Developers and the Community Developers.

Lab Zero Games initially acted as an intermediary between the two groups. This process was interrupted by reports of allegations against Zaimont and his de facto liquidation of the company.
