The Witcher 4 is definitely happening – here’s everything we know...
Since Witcher 3: Wild Hunt graced our PCs and consoles, fans have wondered if there would be another Witcher game.

The short answer is yes – but Geralt is not going to star, which means things may be different this time around. The developer CD Projekt RED clearly stated that Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the conclusion of its story, which is so nicely finished at the end of the base game and the final DLC, Blood and Wine.

Another Witcher game is inevitable right now, and we say so with confidence as CD Projekt RED has spoken a little about the future of the series.

Whatever this Witcher game might be, it probably wouldn’t be called The Witcher 4, but we won’t know otherwise until more details emerge. As expected, this hasn’t stopped people (including us) from getting excited and speculating about what it might be like.

Don’t expect anything too early, however, as the Projekt Red developer CD is working hard on Cyberpunk 2077 – the next big entry from the studio due to be released on December 10th for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia (as well as PS5) and Xbox Series X at a later date).

However, Project Red President Adam Kiciński said earlier this year that there is a “relatively clear concept” for the next Witcher game and that full production would begin “immediately” after Cyberpunk 2077 is released.

Below we’re going to list everything we currently know about the next Witcher game – and when we think it might land.

The Witcher 4 release date: probably not soon

There’s a lot to look forward to as the president of CD Projekt RED almost confirms that another Witcher game is planned.

To add even more hype, a presenter, Donata Popławska, confirmed on the forums of CD Projekt RED in 2019 that the company still plans to release another AAA game by 2021.

Previous rumors suggest that this release would be an RPG title. While this fits the bill, it doesn’t leave much time to become the next Witcher game considering how long cyberpunk has been the focus of attention.

His forum post stated: “As for CD Projekt Capital Group’s strategy for 2016-2021, their plans to release the second AAA game by 2021 remain unchanged. We are currently focused on the production and promotion of Cyberpunk 2077, so we don’t want to comment on any further projects. ”

It’s more likely a Witcher game will be a few years later, possibly 2023 if not later.

The Witcher 4 News and Rumors

The case for The Witcher 4

It is important that the success of the Witcher 3 Projekt has really put RED on the map. Before that, the previous Witcher games (and the entire studio) never had the same impact or reception as the success of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

It would make the most sense for the developers to take advantage of the Witcher’s popularity, especially given the positive response to the Witcher TV show. But again, it doesn’t seem likely we will see it anytime soon, considering how cyberpunk has faced multiple delays this year.

The president of CD Projekt RED Kiciński said in an interview: “The first three ‘Witcher’ were by definition a trilogy, so we just couldn’t call the next game ‘The Witcher 4’. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’ll do it. ”Leave the world of The Witcher. ”

When you say that the author of the Witcher books, Andrzej Sapkowski, remedied a dispute with CD Projekt RED and signed a new contract with the company to “further cement their relationship,” there is much to be pleased about while it is still nothing has been officially confirmed.

In an interview with Bankier, Kiciński discussed the future of the Witcher games: “The Witcher is one of two franchise companies on which the company’s future activities can be built … Unfortunately, I can’t reveal anything more today.”

Sure, there’s something on the studio’s radar right now and once Cyberpunk is done we can probably look forward to a new Witcher game.

It’s kind of a turning point, however. In 2016, with the release of the definitive DLC for Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski said in an interview with Eurogamer that the Witcher team had “nothing planned” for a new game world.

“As we said, never say never… right now it’s really blood and wine. This is the end. Is blood and wine [the] Close and there will be no more sorcerer anytime soon – if there ever will. ”

It is believed that this discourse actually revolved around Geralt’s story as opposed to a brand new Witcher game.

The CD Projekt RED team had put over 10 years of time and resources into the Witcher games, which led to the release of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in May 2015. So it stands to reason that we wouldn’t be hearing from another Witcher title this soon after it shipped.

Where does Cyberpunk 2077 fall in?

Right now, Project Red is ahead of the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, another big game that has been in the works for years.

It goes without saying that the company won’t focus on anything else until cyberpunk is finally out in the wild. Also keep in mind that Cyberpunk will have a similar DLC release style to Witcher 3, with waves of free downloadable content and paid expansions, so the company’s focus will be on Cyberpunk long after it is released.

Who would be the main character?

For those of us who played the Witcher 3 to the end, including DLC, we know how things go.

While the main game and its branching stories have around 40 different endings, the general narrative of Geralt and Ciri comes to a good conclusion, with the exact outcome depending on the decisions made by players during the game. The Blood & Wine DLC, in particular, captivates things in a beautiful arc.

Either way, Geralt’s long, arduous, and majestic adventure ends one way or another, and CD Projekt Red strives to keep it that way.

“I think good stories have to end,” Jakub Szamałek, Senior Writer, said in an interview with IGN in 2015. “You can’t prolong them indefinitely, and we felt that Geralt was having such an amazing adventure experienced, and his saga is already so long and complex that this was a good point to think about an appropriate ending for the story. ”

Back in 2013, executive producer John Mamais said this trip would be Geralt’s last.

“We’re not killing the world and walking away from it, but we will definitely want to make this game the final in a big way,” said Mamias. “We could possibly even include Geralt in later games. We just have to talk about it and find out what we’re going to do next. ”

Since Geralt wouldn’t be the main character, we think the Witcher 4 is an excellent time to make the women of the Witcher series shine.

Ciri would be an excellent candidate, but given that her story is already fully told and the rich lore of the entire franchise thanks to the books, there is so much room to create an entirely new and unique adventure in the wizarding world.

Perhaps an adventure that allows you to create your own character suits the world better, or perhaps a permanent protagonist like in the first three Witcher games. Either way, we’d like to see a new perspective of what a witcher could be.
