As part of its Search On 2020 online event, Google yesterday announced many new features to come within the algorithm used by its search engine, and in particular in terms of increasingly important processing in terms of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Research results are likely to change quite dramatically soon and you need to prepare for it now! …
As part of its Search On 2020 event, Google launched several announcements last night, including explaining how artificial intelligence is now increasingly influencing the algorithms of its search engine.
The first information is that currently, the BERT algorithm (which has been mentioned many times on Abondance) processes almost all the requests managed by the engine in English (the percentage was around 10% of requests at launch, i.e. almost a year ago to the day).
Google is also announcing a new algorithm for understanding misspelled queries at the end of the month, using 680 million parameters and which, according to the development team of this new tool, should represent a huge leap in terms of quality, because currently, 1 in 10 requests is incorrectly typed, again according to Google statistics.
Another new feature to come: the ability of the algorithm to better understand a passage within a page to find “the needle in a haystack” or relevant information “hidden” in a page which does not necessarily deal with this subject. This can help with long tail, very specific and very precise requests. This new algorithm, which will arrive in November, will improve 7% of search results in all languages from day one.
How Google will be able to respond more precisely to a specific request by searching for the answer within a page.

On the other hand, a treatment of more generic, broader requests is also planned, by analyzing the researched topic, but also various sub-topics, to propose more open SERPs, offering more diversified results according to the needs of the Internet user.
The videos will also be entitled to their innovations with a better understanding of the content (voice recognition) to bring the visitor to the engine directly at the moment, within the video, where the answer to his question is found, as in the various chapters of a book.
For journalists, Google announces PinPoint, a free tool, available in 7 languages and allowing to stir up enormous amounts of information to find named entities (names of people, companies, places, etc.) and them. authors of these documents.
Other new features that will be unveiled in the coming weeks: new visual search possibilities, notably in Google Lens, the Knowledge Graph, Google Shopping, Google Maps and Street View, etc.
Several articles have been published by Google following the Search On 2020 event. We strongly suggest that you read them and watch the videos offered, as the world of information research could change in the coming weeks and it is important to prepare for it. Of course, count on us to tell you more as soon as all of these new features are live. Stay tuned to Abondance!
