After a long-time injury, Mahmoud Gennesh, Zamalek’s first-choice goalkeeper is back to training for the first time since June.

Gennesh has been absent since June 2019 when he ruptured his Achilles tendon during a training session with the national team for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

The injury ruled the 32-year-old out of the tournament and kept him on the sidelines for the rest of the year, which forced his club to sign three goalkeepers during the summer transfer window.

The Whites acquired the services of Mohamed Awaad from Ismaily, Smouha’s Abou-Gabal, and youngster Mohamed Sobhy from Petrojet, however, the trio is yet to prove themselves at their new club.

It would be interesting to see which goalkeeper will be chosen by Carteron to start for the first-team when Gennesh is fit to play, giving that the three goalkeepers have international experience under their belts.

Gennesh has joined Zamalek in 2011 from second-division side Olympic Alexandria and has managed to make 99 appearances for the club across all competitions.
