Mohamed Salah managed to score a single goal against Guinea-Bissau, giving Egypt the first victory in the African Cup of Nations hosted by Cameroon.

The Pharaohs team was lucky, as Mama Baldy scored a late equalizer, but the referee canceled it after a review by the video assistant referee due to an error.

Egypt, which holds the record for winning the tournament seven times, lost its opening match in the group to Nigeria, 0-1.

Egypt dominated the match against Guinea Bissau to a large extent, as 3 shots from its players hit the post.

Salah scored the only goal 21 minutes before the end of the match, to achieve a decisive victory in the city of Garoua.

The Liverpool striker received a cross pass with a direct shot with his left foot from the edge of the penalty area, which crossed the outstretched hand of Guinea Bissau goalkeeper Jonas Mendes.

Carlos Queiroz’s team was less impressive in the second half, but Amr Al-Sulayya managed to pass the ball accurately inside the penalty area to Salah, who netted it with a tight shot.

Egypt faces Sudan in its last match in the group on Wednesday (19:00 GMT), and a draw is enough for it to secure second place in the group, while Guinea-Bissau must beat Nigeria in order to have a hope of qualifying for the round of 16.
