The French club Lyon striker, Algerian Islam Slimani, expressed his pride in seeing the Egyptian, Mohamed Salah, competing with football stars to win the 2021 Golden Ball.
Salah is in the list of the most prominent candidates to win the Ballon d’Or for the year 2021, which is awarded by the French magazine “France Football” for the best player in the world.
Regarding Salah’s nomination to win the Golden Ball, Soleimani said, according to Russia Today, in statements reported by “filgoal”: “Why don’t we support Mohamed Salah? He is an Arab like us who represents all Arabs, as we do.”
Soleimani concluded, “We are proud to have an Arab player in the Golden Ball race, whether he or (Algeria and Manchester City star) Riyad Mahrez.”
It is expected that the winner of the Ballon d’Or for 2021 and the final standings of the players will be announced on the 29th of November.
No Arab player has ever won the Ballon d’Or, while the legend of AC Milan, Liberian George Weah, is the only African to win it in 1995.
And the Portuguese network RTP revealed earlier that Argentine star Lionel Messi, the French star of Paris Saint-Germain, will be crowned with the Ballon d’Or for the year 2021.
And the media network stated in its report that the famous French magazine “France Football”, which presents the “Golden Ball” for the best football player in the world annually, contacted Messi and informed him that he was the winner of the award for this year.
And if the Portuguese network is believed, the Argentine star will be crowned with the Golden Ball for the seventh time in his career after the years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019, to enhance his record by winning the award.
Coming in second place as the most award-winning player is Cristiano Ronaldo, the English star of Manchester United, who won it five times, in the years: 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
The 2021 Ballon d’Or awards ceremony will be held on November 29 in Paris, France.
A list of 30 nominees for this prestigious award, which was canceled last year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, was selected based on the votes of 180 football journalists from around the world, according to Russia Today.
The French magazine also revealed 20 nominees for the best player award, 10 nominees for the “Cuba” award for the best young player in the world (under 21), and 10 nominees for the “Yashen” award for the best goalkeeper in the world.
