The race will take place around Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, on a specially built circuit, where construction is already well underway.
With a calendar of 23 races set to be approved by the World Motor Sport Council next month, Miami organizers announced Thursday that the race will take place from May 6-8.
Miami will be the first of two rounds to be held in the United States of America next season, as the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, will host the second round, which is scheduled to take place in the last quarter of the year.
“We’ve worked hard to create a fantastic circuit that offers an unparalleled experience for spectators,” said Tom Garfinkel, Managing Partner of the Miami Grand Prix.
He continued, “There is tremendous enthusiasm and great anticipation for this event, and we are pleased to announce the date of the tour.”
A tour in Miami is a big step for Liberty Media, which has held commercial rights since acquiring the tournament in 2017.
The American media giant is constantly trying to add more cities to the championship calendar, and has been in long talks for years about setting up the race in Miami.
“I have no doubts that the F1 community and fans around the world will be amazed at what they will see next May,” said Richard Kerrigan, CEO of the award.
He continued, “Construction operations at the circuit are going in full swing as expected, and now the date has been confirmed, and we can work directly on the details.”
He added, “The site is well known and will provide an unforgettable experience for all followers around the world. We look forward to hosting the global event.”
With the expected nature of the upcoming calendar, the Miami round will conclude the rounds that precede the return of the championship to Europe with the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks later.
The two rounds of Spain and Monaco will be held consecutively behind each other in order to facilitate the logistical challenges for the teams, especially after reducing the days of the Monaco Prize to three instead of four.
