Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi saluted his country’s national handball team for its “heroic and honorable performance” against the French team in the semi-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Al-Sisi said on the president’s official page on the social networking site “”: “Egypt is proud of your great achievement, your great determination and your heroic performance. I also affirm my full and comprehensive support in sponsoring sports and Egyptian youth.”

President Sisi continued, “Thank you, you have honored us and made us happy.”

The French team ended the adventure of its Egyptian counterpart with a score of (27-23) today, Thursday, in the semi-finals of the handball competition.

There is still an opportunity for the Egyptian team, to achieve an unprecedented Arab and African achievement, to win the first Olympic medal in its history when it plays the match for third place for the bronze medal on Saturday, against his Spanish counterpart.

Egypt became the first African and Arab team to reach the semi-finals of the handball competition in the Summer Olympics, after defeating Germany (31-26) in the quarter-finals, last Tuesday.
