Thank you for reading the news about Kenya sanctioned by CAF for fielding COVID-19 positive players and now with the details
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have been hit with a ban by CAF for breaching COVID-19 rules in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
The Harambee Stars were drawn in Group G in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with Egypt, Togo, and Comoros.
Egypt currently lead the group with eight points after recently earning two consecutive victories against Togo in the last international break.
Meanwhile, Comoros are level on points with Egypt, piling more pressure on third-placed Kenya, who have just three points with two games remaining.
Ahead of the remaining group games in March, Kenya have been dealt a blow as FKF officials have been banned by CAF.
Kenya had faced Comoros twice last November, and during the games, there were COVID-19 positive players on the pitch.
FKF Chief Executive Officer Barry Otieno is said to have torn apart PCR test copies of the Kenyan team during the encounter.
As a result, CAF have enforced a six-month ban on Otieno along with Kenya director Ronny Oyando from all football-related activities.
“According to the PCR tests copies that were acquired after the match, four players have all tested positive before the match yet took part in the game and risked the contamination of the opposing team as well as their fellow teammates and all officials that were involved in match 94 of the Total Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” CAF said in a statement.
