Aston Villa defender Ahmed Elmohamady has expressed his sorrow over the defeat to Premier League giants Manchester City in the 19th round of the 2020/21 season.

Elmohamady had joined Aston Villa from Hull City in 2017, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League in 2019 after defeating Derby County 2-1 in the playoff final.

The 33-year-old has fallen down in pecking order since their promotion to Matty Cash, who arrived from Nottingham in the summer.

Elmohamady was on the bench for Villa in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.

The former ENPPI full back has put the blame on the referee over City’s dubious first goal which came through Bernardo Silva, where there was suspicion of an offside in build up.

“Tough one to take tonight, we defended really well and had some opportunity’s going forward, we move on, Can’t get y head around this offside rule,” Elmohamady wrote on Twitter.

Aston Villa currently hold the 11th place in the Premier League with 26 points after 16 games.
