Zamalek: We are close to signing ex-Sporting Lisbon forward

Thank you for reading the news about Zamalek: We are close to signing ex-Sporting Lisbon forward and now with the details

- Yasmine El Tohamy - Zamalek spokesperson Essam Salem has revealed that they are close to signing a new forward in the January transfer window.

The Whites’ star forward Mostafa Mohamed has been heavily linked with a move away from the club for a while now.

The 23-year-old was reportedly on the verge of completing a move to French giants Saint-Étienne in January.

Saint-Étienne were reportedly in negotiations to complete Mostafa Mohamed’s move to Les Verts after sending a $5m offer to Zamalek for his services.

Zamalek later halted negotiations following the comments of Saint-Étienne president Roland Romeyer and threatened to take legal action against him.

Mohamed could still make a move abroad with Turkish giants Galatasaray being the latest to be in pursuit of his signature.

On Wednesday, Zamalek spokesperson Essam Salem revealed that the club is on the lookout for a new foreign forward.

Salem also stressed that the potential arrival of a new forward in January does not necessarily mean that Zamalek are planning for Mohamed’s replacement.

“The club is currently looking to sign a foreign centre-forward at the highest level, even if Mostafa Mohamed stays,” Salem ON Time Sports.

“Big teams usually need more than one player in that position, especially before the upcoming matches in the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League.

“Three forwards were proposed to Zamalek, and Jaime Pacheco [Zamalek head coach] had to choose one of them.

“These forwards consist of a Portuguese player, an Italian of Egyptian origin, and the third is a Cameroonian forward.

“I imagine that Pacheco is leaning more towards choosing his fellow Portuguese. He is young and has physical strength that will benefit Zamalek against African teams.

“He also played for Sporting Lisbon and the Portugal national team at the U-23 level. I think he’s the closest to Zamalek,” he added.
