- Yasmine El Tohamy - Egypt international Mahmoud Trezeguet is reportedly set to stay at Aston Villa amid rumours of a potential move to Galatasaray.

Trezeguet had a successful first season in English football with Aston Villa after guiding them to Premier League safety.

He had played a key part in helping Aston Villa secure Premier League survival, scoring goals against Crystal Palace and Arsenal to keep the club in the fight to avoid relegation until the final matchday last season.

The former Al Ahly man finished his first season with Villa, scoring seven goals and three assists to his name in 41 games for Aston Villa across all competitions.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away to Turkish giants Galatasaray, who had reportedly opened talks to sign Trezeguet in the January transfer window.

But according to a report by The Athletic, Villa have no desire to sell Trezeguet as he still remains an important player to their squad.

The report also added that manager Dean Smith is keen on keeping the Egyptian at least until the end of the season.

Trezeguet hasn’t made an appearance for Villa since November 30 when he suffered a head injury that sidelined him for a while.

Immediately after, he sustained a hamstring injury, forcing him to miss Aston Villa’s last six league games.

Trezeguet also tested positive for COVID-19 last week as soon as he returned to team training. However, he recovered from the virus on Tuesday and could be available for selection in their next game against Manchester City.
