OFFICIAL: ENPPI sign ex-Israeli club forward

- Yasmine El Tohamy - Egyptian side ENPPI have acquired the services of Ghanaian forward Kwame Karikari following the termination of his contract at Israeli side Hapoel Petah Tikva.

The petroleum club have made some decent signings in the summer, acquiring the services of Tunisia international Zied Boughattas, Salah Rico, Karim Fouad, Karim Tarek, John Ebuka, Dinopeter Airaodion, Ibrahim El-Kadi, and many more.

However they still didn’t have the start they hoped for in the Egyptian Premier League, collecting just seven points from their opening five games.

The main reason for their slow start is the shortage of goals scored as they managed to net only five times in five games, leading them to sign out-of-contract Ghanaian forward Kwame Karikari on a three-year deal.

Born in Ghana, Karikari is quite a journeyman, playing in 10 different countries, with Egypt being his 11th of his career.

The 28-year-old forward began his career at native club Inter Allies FC, before moving to Swedish club AIK, who they loaned him to Degerfors IF, before selling Karikari permanently to Halmstad in 2015.

During his time in Sweden, Karikari scored 16 goals in 67 league games across the top two tiers, before having stints at Norwegian side FK Haugesund, then PFK Feniks Bucha of Ukraine, Qatari clubs Al Markhiya and Al-Arabi, and Turkey’s Balikesirspor.

The Ghanaian also played for Neftchi Baku in Azribjan, UAE’s Al-Orooba, Georgian giants Dinamo Tbilisi, and most recently Hapoel Petah Tikva in Isreal, before leaving last October.

On the international level, Karikari represented the Ghana youth national teams, but never made it to the main national team.

He will now have a new stint in Egypt with ENPPI, who will look to improve their league results in the upcoming period as they seek a return back to the CAF competitions.
