Stefano Ceci lived at Maradona’s side for twenty years. He was his manager and his friend. And he knew what it looked like inside the football icon, what Diego thought, what he felt, how he suffered.

Now, when there is speculation about whether Maradona’s life could have been saved if the emergency doctors had been on the spot faster or the family had been more careful, Ceci takes the floor on the Neapolitan radio “Kiss Kiss”: “Diego let himself die” he assures. Diego was tired. «He didn’t want to live anymore. Diego stopped being Diego when he turned 15. He has been alone since he became Maradona. “

Until two years ago he played soccer and padel with people between the ages of 15 and 20 in Dubai once a week. He’s been physically active, but lately he’s been letting go physically and mentally.



The death of his friend did not really surprise him, but made him deeply sad. Ceci finds consolation in the thought that Diego is now with the people he loved most: his mother and father, next to whom he is buried. “Now Diego finally has his peace.”


