Antonio Update, Liverpool’s Defense, and Klopp on Jota: Important FPL Notes...

Liverpool 2-1 West Ham United

  • Tore: Mohamed Salah (£ 12.4 million), Diogo Jota (£ 6.3 million) | Pablo Fornals (£ 6.4 million)
  • Helps: Xherdan Shaqiri (£ 6.4 Mio.)
  • Bonus: Fornale x3, Jota x2, Salah x1

Liverpool looked to a win against West Ham, which raises even more questions about a single-league defense without conceding all season.

Major injuries severely restricted coach Jürgen Klopp’s options at the rear. The youngest player comes in the middle. Nathaniel Phillips (£ 4.0m), made his league debut.

Nat is the way to do it

It’s fair to say that the 23-year-old didn’t let anyone down and earned a lot of praise from Klopp after the game.

He kept it really simple tonight, which was incredibly important to us. The boys supported him well and he supported the boys; He was noisy and spoke in the square. He was there for the challenges, very aggressive, but no fouls, maybe one. It was a really good game.

Whether he will keep his place in the league, however, is another question.

Klopp was non-binding Joel Matip‘s (£ 5.4m) return from the blow he took on Gameweek 5 but with the games coming tight and fast – Champions League midweek and a trip to Manchester City on Sunday – Phillips should be at least one of these devices is part of at.

But as tempting as a Reds defender may be, Phillips is still a long way from taking a regular place on the team.

The defense rests

Not that Liverpool defenders have been overly attractive at any cost in this campaign.

Just Andy Robertson (£ 7.1m) almost justified the hefty price tag of being a member of the Reds’ backline, thanks to the goal and two assists he produced to improve the only one conceded.

Those attacking returns kept him from selling … until now. After a five week increase in ownership, the left-back is now in the top 15 for Gameweek 8 transfers.

His full-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£ 7.4m) knows all about the feeling – he’s been losing managers every week since Gameweek beat Leeds United 1 4-3.

Neither was to blame for Saturday’s goal scored by Pablo Fornals (£ 6.4m). The midfielder reacted wisely afterwards Joe GomezThe weak clearing header (£ 5.4m) came straight to him and led the ball past Alisson (£ 5.9m) and by the Post.

Alexander-Arnold’s previously pegged offensive returns offer dried up on just one template after seven starts, and the full-backs only managed one chance between them – bow, Trent – and one shot each at West Ham.

All of this and Man City and Leicester next point to more backline sales for the foreseeable future.

Jota Joy

Big Hitter Ownership Mohamed Salah (£ 12.4m) and Sadio Mane (£ 12.0m) have remained rather more stable, despite a net -8,171 missing an eight-point move for the former when given a penalty on Saturday for reaching the score.

The Spot Kick award was generous, and umpire Kevin Friend likely had the right to keep in touch Arthur masuaku (£ 4.5m) enough to be considered a foul, if not enough to justify Salah’s dramatic response to it.

Freund then refused replacement support to Mane owners Diogo Jota (£ 6.3m) scored after a rebound caused by the Senegalese international’s challenge Lukasz Fabianski (£ 5.0 million).

VAR invited the referee to review the incident and he was right to dismiss the goal for Manes sliding tackle against the goalkeeper as it had little to do with the ball.

Minutes later, Jota met again – from the other submarine xherdan Shaqiri‘s (6.4 million pounds) clever passport, and that effort stood.

Wolves’ signing now has three goals from their last three games in all competitions and three out of five in the league, which has led to a certain love from Klopp.

Diogo is in a good moment. He’s a good player and we’re really glad we got this signature so it’s a real win-win situation. I think we can help him and he can help us a lot.

Jota certainly helps make Liverpool’s system a little more flexible when he started in a 4-2-3-1 formation (and scored a goal) in Gameweek 6.

Klopp returned to his proven 4-3-3 against the Hammers, however, and while the demands of this season call for frequent rotation of the squad, it’s hard to see Jota consistently of Salah, Mane’s three fronts preferred by the Germans dissolves and Roberto Firmino (£ 9.3m) anything but occasional.

That doesn’t stop managers from buying into it – Jota is currently in the top 10 for purchases in Gameweek 8.

But there are nine midfielders at its price with more than the 26 points that Jota currently has in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL). Everyone played at least twice as many minutes. While his performance has been impressive – he has scored three goals out of 10 attempts – Jota will do well to maintain this form if his pitch time doesn’t improve.

Hammer time?

It took a long time, but West Ham’s schedule is now finally easing. The list of games looks generally attractive through the end of January.

The men of David Moyes got through a brutal start to the season and their main attackers like Fornals and Jarrod Bowen (£ 6.3m) could attract a lot of investment from now on.

The pair are in the top ten for attempts among midfielders, with 12 each, with Fornals being the team leader for the opportunities created (six).

How the hammers do without a striker Michail Antonio (£ 6.2m), who missed the match with a hamstring injury, could be key, although Moyes was optimistic on the matter:

We’ve already got him on the bike and he’s moving, what the type of injury we’re really happy with. He had another scan and an ultrasound yesterday (October 29th). He’s in a good place.

All three midfielders should benefit from an improved schedule, with Fornals leading on both points (39 to Bowens 33 and Souceks 18) and attempts on Saturday – only Salah got him for the three shots he had keep up.

Fornals is the roundest option with two goals and three assists, while Bowen scores three goals.

But despite the next encounter with Fulham, both are not in the top 30 for transfers.

In fact, it’s just a hammer and it’s defender Aaron Cresswell (£ 5.0m), presumably because of the three assists he’s produced this season.

Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Robertson, Gomez, N. Phillips, Alexander-Arnold; C. Jones (Shaqiri 70), Wijnaldum, J. Henderson; Mané, Firmino (Jota 70), Salah (Milner 90).

West Ham United XI (3-4-2-1): Fabianski; Cresswell, Ogbonna, Balbuena; Masuaku (Lanzini 88), Soucek, Reis, Coufal; Fornals, Bowen (Benrahma 89); Haller (Yarmolenko 74).
