Will your Melbourne Cup tip get a run in the race...
We’re only eight days away from the 160th round of the Melbourne Cup, but will your early fantasy get a run in the race?

Next Tuesday there will be twenty-four horses in front of the starter, and realistically there are only two chances of taking one of the places on the field.

The $ 400,000 Group 3 Bendigo Cup (2400m) will be played on Wednesday and six horses outside the top 24 in order of participation are accepted.

The Hawkes Racing Zebrowski (25th in the order of participation), Azuro (34th), Haky (37th), Joseph O’Brien’s Import Pondus (39th), Lord Belvedere (42nd) and Saracen Knight (45th) .

Winning the Bendigo Cup opens the door to a weight penalty imposed by Racing Victoria’s handicap team.

A half-kilo penalty for Zebrowski, if successful, would get the gelding to start next Tuesday, while the other potential Bendigo Cup winners would need 1.5 kg or more to get into the top 24.

All six Bendigo Cup entries are also nominated for the Hotham Handicap of Group 3 on Saturday (2500 m), which features the carrot exemption for the Melbourne Cup.

Other horses outside of the top 24, in order of attendance, that are nominated for Saturday’s Flemington residency test are an additional nine horses.

Platinum Invador (28.), Ashrun (29.), Hush Writer (30.), Sound (33.), Carif (36.), Schabau (40.), Rechtsanwalt (41.), Admire Robson (43.) und Future Score (44.).

The four horses placed 21 to 24 in the last order of participation are respectively – the Chosen One, the Steel Prince, the King of Leogrance and the True Self.
