Fergal O’Brien got the ball rolling for a triple on Friday of that two-day game last year when he landed the inaugural race with Champagne Well, and the coach has reported Global Flame as the first of six runners for the stable that day.

The earlier Irish pointer may not run if the bottom is deemed unsuitable (see quotes below) but it will undoubtedly form the first leg of some multiples on the yard’s bobs if it does.

He is returning after 220 days of wind surgery and was successful in the junior company when he was last seen in Wetherby in March. This is a much stronger race, however, and O’Brien is only 1-38 as the first run after wind operation since 2018.

Wind Ops is the theme of the race as Paul Nicholls’ representative Ask For Glory is another one to have his first run after the procedure. The stable is much healthier at 24 percent as the runners have their first outing since using Op and Ask For Glory.

Nicholls has won this race three times in the past seven seasons, and Ask For Glory looked like it made up 23 lengths in Wincanton in February.

The newcomer landed that race in 2012 before winning the festival later in the season, and his trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies saddles Topofthecotswolds.

He’s back this season after having raced over fences for most of his races in recent seasons and made a successful return to the discipline when he landed a rookie competition in Uttoxeter last month.

He comes into the race with a completely different profile than The New One, however, and the other six Twiston-Davies runners this century were all out of place. It is unlikely that we will see another festival winner from Naunton-Hof in the line-up this year.

Curran eyes great chases for a stable star

It would be a bit of a surprise if Domaine De L’Isle scored a goal on his season debut in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle, but it shouldn’t shock anyone if he makes a name for himself at Cheltenham before the end of the season.

Domaine De L’Isle was a breath of fresh air over fences last season, bringing the name of its former jump jockey, who became coach Sean Curran, to light. He won three on the rebound over fences, including a major handicap on Saturday at Ascot in January.

Curran may have a humble string in his second stint practice, but that hasn’t stopped him from making big plans for the 146-rated pursuer who may not have reached his full potential just yet.

“It’s good for a small garden to have one like this,” said Curran of Swindon. “We have 14 stables and 14 horses so I should say I’m full. For me and the boys here, it’s nice to have a Saturday horse. ”

For Domaine De L’Isle, it’s just a second start over the hurdles in the UK on Friday, with the big goals of following over fences.

“He’s a newcomer over hurdles and his races over fences won’t start until next month so we’re going to start him here,” said the coach.

“He’ll have an entry for the Paddy Power Gold Cup in Cheltenham next month and we’ll see how he’s doing. There’s the December Gold Cup in Cheltenham next month and something like that could fit. ”

“It can go three miles on decent ground, but when it gets softer we’ll come back to two and a half. I hope he’s a little stronger this season. “

Donald McCain, Finisk River coach
He would probably have won the last time had it not been for the last mistake. It’s a step up again, but the bottom is getting good and there aren’t many other places to go. The owner wants to try and I have no problem with that.

Paul Nicholls, Trainer von Ask For Glory
He only had two hurdles last season, so he’s inexperienced and a beginner until December 1st. So the idea is to do a few more runs before he goes hunting. Two miles five and the ground should suit him.

Kim Bailey, Trainer von Does He Know
He goes into class and I think it’s a decent little competition. He’s pretty inexperienced and it will be interesting to see how he handles it. I’m happy with his style and he deserves to go there.
