Dubai - Yasmine El Tohamy - Tala’a El-Gaish’s Mohamed Bassam was the hero for his team on Wednesday when he lead them to oust rising Egyptian side Pyramids FC from Egypt Cup, defeating them 3-1 on penalties.
El-Gaish surprised Pyramids at the beginning of the match with fierce attack. Ahmed Samir tested El-Mahdy Soliman after eight minutes but his effort was saved.
In the 21st minute Ahmed Tawfik fired a powerful shot that went wide. Few minutes later Dodo El-Gabbas had a shot on goal but it was well over El-Gaish’s goal.
In the second half Samir was behind the most dangerous chance after his close range shot went just wide.
Ammar Hamdy had a big chance to put El-Gaish ahead but his 1v1 with Soliman was saved by the latter in the 60th minute.
The game was hanging between both sides with neither managing to score for the match to head to extra time then eventually to a penalty shootout.
In penalties, Bassam’s heroics were well present as he managed to save three of Pyramids’ penalties, precisely those taken by John Antwi, Ali Gabr and Mahmoud Hamada for El-Gaish to make the quarterfinals.
El-Gaish will await the winner between Zamalek and FC Masr in Egypt Cup semifinal.
