Italian manager Luciano Spalletti has been reportedly linked with a surprise job of coaching Cairo giants Al Ahly.

Al Ahly’s current head coach Rene Weiler has been rumoured to leave the club at the end of the season despite helping the Red Devils secure two trophies.

A 3-2 win over Zamalek back in September saw Al Ahly claim the Egypt Super Cup title, and two weeks ago, they were crowned Egyptian Premier League champions for a record 42nd time.

However, it seems that Weiler could be on his way out after the end of the season, with Al Ahly looking at potential replacements, including former AS Roma and Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti.

According to a report by inews24, Spalletti is said to be close to take over Al Ahly and replace Rene Weiler at the end of the season.

The report also added that after initial talks between both parties, Spalletti seems to be ready for a new experience in Egypt.

Spalletti has managed several clubs in Italy, including Sampdoria, Empoli, Udinese, AS Roma, and most recently Inter Milan.

The 61-year-old guided Roma to a second-place finish in Serie A and came close to winning the Scudetto in 2017 but trailed title-winners Juventus by just four points.

He went on to coach Inter and helped the Nerazzurri return to the UEFA Champions League after finishing fourth in the 2018/19 season.
