Thank you for reading the news about Sam Morsy named Wigan’s Player of the Year and now with the details
Wigan Athletic captain Sam Morsy has been voted by club fans as the Player of the Season following the conclusion of the 2019/20 season which saw the Latics relegate to League One.
Morsy experienced a tough season with his side this season as the club fell to administration few rounds before league conclusion after struggling financially due to the coronavirus outbreak, which meant that they were enforced a 12-point match ban at the end of the season.
The decision played a major role in sending the club into relegation zone at the end of the season and eventually relegating to the lower division.
Morsy captained Wigan 43 of the 46 Championship matches during the season, including all nine of the club’s games following the restart in mid-June.
The Egypt international scored three goals in 2019/20, and assisted further three goals in his team’s campaign.
Wigan’s official website announced that the 28-year-old midfielder received 42% of the overall vote, which gave him the node over Cedric Kipre and Kal Naismith.
“Thank you to all who voted, been so proud to captain this club and whatever happens, the unity we have all shown will make sure wigan will go from strength to strength,” Morsy reacted to the announcement on Twitter.
