Thank you for reading the news about Klopp: Nobody reached Liverpool out for Salah’s Olympics appearance and now with the details
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has cleared out the speculation about Mohamed Salah’s potential availability for Egypt in the 2020 Olympics, saying that nobody from the Egyptian Football Association contacted the Reds.
Egypt qualified for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo after reaching the final of the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
The football event at the Olympics will take place between July 22nd and August 8th, meaning that Salah might miss-out on Liverpool’s pre-season preparations and their opening Premier League game next year.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss previously stated that no decision has been made over the club and Salah’s position from participation in the 2020 Olympics with Egypt, but hinted that he might not be available for the summer tournament.
“We haven’t taken a decision yet. Would I like to lose a player in the pre-season preparations? Absolutely no,” Klopp said in a press conference.
“It is the Olympic games and I am a sportsman. We have to see how we will deal with the situation.”
“We have to think about several things. I will speak with Salah and we will say what we want to happen. We demand more information and nobody has spoke with us [from the EFA] till now,” he added.
Egypt U-23 head coach Shawky Gharib had publicly showed his desire to have Salah among the squad to take on the 2020 Olympics.
