The reigning UCL star Mohamed Salah will travel to Spain’s capital to face Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

The draw event for the last 16 in UCL was held on Monday, December 16 in Nyon, Switzerland.

Following a successful group stage qualification, 16 teams discovered their opponents as they set to battle their ways to the final in Istanbul next May.

The highlight of the draw was Real Madrid drawing Manchester City, with their rivals Barcelona facing Italy’s Napoli.

Meanwhile, Spain’s third representative Atletico Madrid were drawn against reigning champions Liverpool.

Atletico Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano is set to host Liverpool to play first-leg on February 18, then the reds will return for the second-leg home in Anfield on March 10.

The Reds reached the knockout stages of the UCL after winning all their group stages’ opponents, except Napoli which they lost 2-0 to in Stadio San Paolo, before drawing 1-1 back at Anfield. 

Liverpool finished the top of Group E after a 2-0 victory at Salzburg against Red Bull that ended with a magical goal by Mohamed Salah.

On the other hand, Diego Simeone’s Atleti, finished second in Group D after being defeated away by both Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen.

It is the third consecutive season, Jurgen Klopp’s side to reach the last 16 in the Champions League and are still on to defend their title. Moreover, it’s the first time for Mohamed Salah to face Atletico Madrid while at Liverpool.
