Jose Mourinho said he has gained a better understanding of some of Tottenham Hotspur players after a changed side fell to a 3-1 defeat at Bayern Munich in the Champions League dead rubber on Wednesday night.

Tottenham's 19-year-old winger Ryan Ryan Sessegnon managed to cancel out Kinglsey Coman's opener, but goals from Thomas Muller and Philippe Coutinho ensured a comfortable victory for the hosts inside the Allianz Arena.

With little on the line - Bayern were guaranteed top spot in Group B and Spurs had already qualified as runner-up - Mourinho took the chance to rest regular starters including midfielder Dele Alli and captain and striker Harry Kane.

"It would be unfair to speak about conclusions. No conclusions, just information and that is very important for me," Mourinho said.

"Some of the players played their first minutes with me. Some of the players like [Juan] Foyth was the first time he played.

"It was important to collect some information, information you normally collect in the season or in pre-season. I just arrived and I need information.

"I am happy with the decisions I made, I hope our supporters understand what I did. Internally we made this decision and we think it was the best decision for the team."

For Bayern, it was a welcome win after the German champions had lost their last two Bundesliga games, providing some relief to interim manager Hansi Flick. By beating Tottenham, Bayern became the first German club to win all six Champions League group stage matches.

However, Flick said he is more concerned about the fitness of Coman, who was helped off on 27 minutes after badly twisting his knee.

Coman's injury "cast a big shadow on this game," said Flick. "Kingsley left the stadium to go for tests, we can only hope it's not that bad."
