Ismaily defeated Ittihad of Alexandria in the first leg of an all-Egyptian Arab Club Championship quarter-final.

The Yellows beat Ittihad 1-0 on Saturday, thanks to Mohamed El-Shamy’s first-half strike in the 33rd minute.

The first real chance in the game came in the sixth minute when Mohamed El-Shamy laid off the ball to Mohamed Makhlouf but his shot was off target.

In the 33rd minute, Humam Tariq played a sublime through ball to Mohamed El-Shamy, who fired a left-footed strike at the near post that beat Emad El-Sayed and gave Ismaily an early 1-0 lead.

Ittihad responded in the 46th minute as Emmanuel Okwi produced a fine cross for Khaled Amar, but the striker could not get his header on target.

The Alexandria-based side almost scored the equalizer in the 60th minute when Razack Cisse skipped past Ismaily defenders and struck the ball at the near post but Mohamed Magdy pulled off a great save.

With this victory, Ismaily will now go to the second leg against Ittihad of Alexandria with a one-goal advantage. The second leg takes place on 24 January.
