Emergency teams comprising police patrol cars, civil defence and ambulances were rushed to the site, and the injured students -- all of them girls -- were taken to the hospital, while firefighters battled the blaze.

Mansour Al Sharayem, the head of the department of education in the city, visited the girls in hospital and prayed for a speedy recovery.
