RIYADH— Leaders from the Group of 20 major economies committed themselves to presenting a united front against the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are determined to spare no effort, both individually and collectively, to protect lives, safeguard people’s jobs and incomes and restore confidence, preserve financial stability, revive growth and recover stronger,” they said in the final summit statement.

The extraordinary virtual summit called by Saudi Arabia, which is presiding over the G20 this year, to advance global efforts to tackle the pandemic, was chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

“We are strongly committed to presenting a united front against this common threat."

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and the suffering faced by people around the world. Tackling the pandemic and its intertwined health, social and economic impacts is our absolute priority,” they said.

“We task our health ministers to meet as needed to share national best practices and develop a set of G20 urgent actions on jointly combating the pandemic by their ministerial meeting in April.” They said in the summit statement.

Meanwhile in his opening remarks, King Salman, who was chairing the summit, said we are determined to spare no effort, both individually and collectively, to protect lives, safeguard people’s jobs and incomes and restore confidence, preserve financial stability, revive growth and recover stronger.

“This crisis requires a global response, and the world is counting on us to cooperate and work together to face it,” King Salman said.

“We should all take responsibility in funding research and development projects aiming to reach a vaccine for the coronavirus,” King Salman told G20 leaders.
