Saudi Arabia has agreed to grant entry visas to Iranian diplomats accredited to the headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, according to what officials from the two countries confirmed, amid discussions that began months ago in an effort to improve relations between them.

An official in the Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed to AFP on Friday that “those who were granted visas are employees of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Iran is a member of the organization, and this is what is done with all member states.”

Tehran: Saudi Arabia will grant visas to Iranian diplomats

As a Saudi official told CNN, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has agreed to grant visas to three Iranian diplomats as part of a routine procedure for representatives of a member state of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is based in Jeddah.”

And Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian revealed in statements yesterday, Thursday, that Saudi Arabia had agreed to grant visas to three Iranian diplomats to reside in the kingdom, in a sign of the improvement of the severed relations between the two countries.

“Last week, Saudi Arabia agreed to grant visas to three of our diplomats who will start working for the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Jeddah,” Iranian media quoted Amir Abdollahian as saying.

In a press conference in Tehran, the minister said with his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Hussein that the next round of Saudi-Iranian talks will be held soon in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Iran and Saudi Arabia, which cut diplomatic ties in 2016, began direct talks this year, including four rounds hosted by Iraq.
