Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Hafez announced that Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed that the security of the Gulf and its countries is an “integral part of Egypt’s security.”
During his meeting in Riyadh with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ministers, Shoukry stressed the need to “intensify coordination regarding the unprecedented challenges in the region.”

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Al-Hajraf, said after the Egyptian Gulf ministerial meeting, that “the Gulf-Egyptian relations are the pillar of security and stability in the region.”
The Council announced in a statement that the meeting of the GCC foreign ministers and Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry, which was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh, dealt with “the relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council and Egypt, and ways to support and strengthen them in various fields.”
The statement added that the two sides reviewed “developments and issues of common interest on the regional and international arenas, as the discussions reflected the convergence of views on these issues.”
He pointed out that the two sides affirmed the continuation of consultation and coordination between the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and Egypt “in a way that supports and enhances security and stability in the region and the world in order to achieve the aspirations of their people and serve the Arab and Islamic nations.”
Shoukry had gone to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to inaugurate a “political consultation mechanism” between Egypt and the Gulf Cooperation Council “regarding the common challenges facing the Arab region and what it requires of unifying the ranks,” according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, published on its official Facebook page, quoted Ambassador Hafez, the official spokesman for the ministry, as saying that “the launch of the Egyptian-Gulf political consultation mechanism comes as a continuation of the course of the well-established Egyptian-Gulf relations, which is characterized by its depth and strength at various levels.”
Hafez added that “the mechanism reflects the keenness of the two sides to periodically coordinate and consult between them, especially towards the common challenges facing the Arab region, and what this requires of uniting the ranks.”
