The Saudi monarch, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, Prince Muhammad bin Salman, today, Saturday, sent two messages to the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev.
The official Saudi “SPA” agency reported that King Salman sent a congratulatory telegram to Aliyev on the occasion of the anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Independence Day.
The Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense also sent a similar cable of congratulations to the Azerbaijani President.
Today, Azerbaijan celebrates the independence day of the country after its secession from the Soviet Union in 1991 in the shadow of a war with the Armenian side in the Nagorno Karabakh region.
On September 27, armed clashes erupted on the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces in the Karabakh region and adjacent areas, in the most dangerous escalation between the two parties in more than 20 years, amid mutual accusations of starting hostilities and bringing in foreign militants.
Since the beginning of this escalation, the Azerbaijani president stressed repeatedly that the only condition for his country’s forces in return for a cessation of hostilities is “to liberate the occupied Azerbaijani lands.” 1992-1994.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, who announced the general mobilization in Armenia during the start of the escalation, stated that Nagorny Karabakh is an Armenian land, stressing that Yerevan is studying the issue of recognizing the independence of the Gara Bagh republic unilaterally.
