Saudi activists on social media circulated a video clip documenting the latest appearance of the Saudi billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who has been under house arrest in the Kingdom since his release from the Ritz-Carlton, where he was detained.

The widely circulated clip and observed by (homeland) Al-Walid bin Talal was shown cycling on a street in the kingdom.

A football conversation took place between the Saudi prince and one of the drivers, as Al-Walid praised the achievements of Al-Hilal Club.

Alwaleed bin Talal said in response to the driver’s speech: “Al Hilal is the first in Saudi Arabia and Asia and fourth in the world,” adding, “The rest have not fulfilled our aspirations and I am with Al Hilal.”

Activists believed that Al-Waleed bin Talal was forced to deal with the fait accompli imposed on him and coexist normally, as it is known that he is prevented from leaving the kingdom under the direct orders of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who was arrested in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in 2017 and then released after a settlement with him.

It is noteworthy that Prince Al-Walid bin Talal had a share of bin Salman’s arrests of princes, in his first campaign in 2017, when princes and officials deposited the famous Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Since his release, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has been in an almost compulsory residency in Saudi Arabia, by imposing an electronic ring that monitors his movements, especially when he moves to the desert, who loves spending time among its sands.

Just as Prince Al-Walid bin Talal is not allowed to travel, other princes and businessmen are prohibited from traveling except for the few who do not pose the slightest danger to the interests of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Last March, the Saudi authorities arrested 3 members of the royal family, including King Salman’s brother and his nephew, on charges of plotting a coup aimed at overthrowing Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, the de facto ruler of the country, according to what three sources confirmed to AFP at the time.

In recent years, the crown prince has consolidated his grip on power by imprisoning prominent clerics and activists as well as influential princes and businessmen.

Mohammed bin Salman is considered the de facto leader of the country because he controls the main levers of government, from defense to the economy, and he is also known for his desire to hide the traces of any internal opposition before his official arrival to the throne.
