A call to boycott the famous Concept restaurant in Saudi Arabia...

Saudi activists launched a campaign, via Twitter, to boycott one of the famous restaurants, which has one of its branches in Saudi Arabia in Dammam, and is owned by Kuwaitis.

The beginning was when the “Concept” restaurant page published on “Snapchat” pictures of the Emir of Qatar while he was arriving at Kuwait Airport to participate in the funeral of the late Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, accompanied by a comment: “He who does not comfort us in the time of trouble, the time of joy does not harm us.”

The restaurant’s account followed this picture with another while praying on the body of the late Emir, in the presence of Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. And the representative of the United Arab Emirates, , commented: “The children of Zayed remain on the covenant, and the best of glory is the consummate glory.”

The Saudis believed that the restaurant’s publications were intended to offend Saudi Arabia, and to try to drive a wedge between the Saudi and Kuwaiti people. They launched the hashtag # Boycott_Restaurant_Concept, topping the trend in the Kingdom.

While Tweeters called for Concept Restaurant to be held accountable for what they considered an offense by boycotting commercial dealings with it and giving it a poor evaluation. And calls for the competent authorities to close the Dammam branch, others saw that the mistake is personal and the account of those who published the pictures through the restaurant’s account must be accounted for, and not to attack the restaurant management in general.

While some Saudi electronic flies attacked the Amiri Diwan in Kuwait, for announcing that the funeral ceremony for the late prince would be limited to relatives only. They are the ones who will be able to attend the burial ceremonies of Sheikh Sabah, which made their government refrain from attending, as they put it.

The Minister of Kuwaiti Amiri Diwan Affairs, Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, had stated that the funeral ceremony of the late Emir would be restricted to relatives only due to the exceptional circumstance and precautionary measures due to the Corona virus.

In a statement monitored by “Watan”, he stressed that “the Amiri Diwan appreciates the feelings of the honorable citizens and residents, the well-off, in expressing their sincere condolences on the death of His Highness.”

And the attention of many activists drew the absence of Arab leaders from offering their condolences on the death of Sheikh Sabah, especially the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman and his ally in the UAE, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed.

Only the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, did not attend the Gulf leaders to perform the duty of condolence so far, while Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Bahrain were satisfied with sending delegates for condolences.

Activists attributed this to the fact that perhaps the stance of Kuwait and the late Emir on the Gulf crisis was the reason for this absence.
