Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — The Arab Coalition on Tuesday intercepted and destroyed another explosive-laden drone deirected toward Abha airport in the southern region of the Kingdom, the latest in a series of attempted attacks over the last week, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported citing coalition spokesman Col. Turki Al-Maliki.

Although some shrapnel fell on the airport as the drone was destroyed, no injuries were reported Col. Al-Maliki said.

The coalition had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone on Sunday (Aug. 30) targeting Abha airport.

The attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi militia have drawn universal condemnation.

The coalition, which is fighting in support of the UN-recognized government of Yemen against the Houthi militia, frequently says it has intercepted explosive-laden drones being fired from Yemen into Saudi Arabia.

Abha airport was hit by missile attacks in June, 2019. One civilian was killed and 47 others were injured.

The coalition would continue to implement strict measures to deter the Houthis from launching attacks, and would ensure that the militia would be held accountable in line with international law, Al-Maliki said.

The Houthi militia still controls Yemen's capital Sanaa, despite several international mediation efforts to bring an end to the war.
