Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - Saudi Gazette report

SOCOTRA — The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) handed over on Monday the water resources management project to the local authority in Hadiboh district in the Yemeni governorate of Socotra, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

The project was carried out to make the most of the seasonal rainwater throughout the year and to provide an infrastructure for managing water resources, benefiting around 30,000 people.

The project has helped alleviate the suffering of the people in the district from acute water shortages, especially during summer and autumn seasons when water supplies are frequently interrupted, sometimes lasting for a full week.

The project was done in cooperation with the local authority and Yemen’s ministry of environment and water and ministry of planning and international cooperation, which contributed in providing clean water to thousands of residents.

The SDRPY has implemented several projects in the governorate as part of its campaign to support the water sector in Socotra, including the project of drilling underground wells, the water pipelines project for the internal water network, and the water tanks project.

It is noteworthy that the SDRPY has launched more than 188 projects in 7 main sectors: (health, energy, transportation, water, education, agriculture and fisheries, and building the capacities of government institutions) through its offices in Yemen, and in cooperation with the local authority and the Yemeni private sector.
