Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - Saudi Gazette report
JEDDAH – The Saudi national executive committee of Indian Social Forum (ISF) strongly denounced the police atrocities in the campuses of premier Indian Muslim universities such as Jamila Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and Darul Uloom Lucknow.
“Since the government of India has been enacting laws disregarding the dignity and fundamental tenets of the country’s constitution, the whole world is witnessing a paradigm shift from principles of secularism and democracy to an authoritarian rule by curtailing the freedom of expression and the right to protest peacefully and democratically,” ISF said in a statement.
“Rather than giving hopes and aspirations to the youth by creating employment opportunities and paving the way for development of the country, the government is dividing its people on religious grounds under the pretext of implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC),” the statement pointed out.
ISF noted that the entire people of the country are fed up with the hollow rhetoric of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and are compelled to register their protest against the controversial divisive law of CAA.
The futile exercise of the federal government to suppress public opinion by force will only make the country shameful in front of the global community and hence we request all, including political leaders, to strongly oppose, in a peaceful manner, this unconstitutional act meant to divide the country on the basis of religion.
The ISF meeting, chaired by its Presided Ashraf Morayur, was attended by Abdul Ghani, Haris Mangalore, Basheer Karanthoor, Waseem Udupi, Ashraf Puthoor, and Mujahid Pasha Bangalore. Haris Mangalore welcomed the gathering while EM Abdullah proposed the vote of thanks.
