Jeddah - Yasmine El Tohamy - RIYADH: An attempted car bombing in Saudi Arabia was thwarted in an anti-terrorist operation, the Kingdom’s State Security said on Sunday.
Authorities found 5 kilograms of explosive RDX material in a car which was being prepared for an attack in Dammam, and seized a machine gun, two pistols live ammunition and a sum of money.
Authorities tracked down the car on December 25, but the suspects refused to surrender themselves and barricaded in one of the buildings in Dammam.
As a result, the two terrorists, Ahmed Abdullah Suwaid and Abdullah Hussein Al-Nimr, died during the operation. Both of them were Saudi nationals.
Officials captured a third suspect, but could not reveal any details at this stage of investigation.
Saudi State Security said they continue to monitor suspects who are receiving orders from outside and trying to disturb the peace of the Kingdom.
