Saudi Arabia’s public prosecutor said on Monday that it has sentenced five men to death over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Three others have been sentenced to 24 years in prison.

Over a year since Khashoggi’s murder, Saudi Arabia promised a full investigation into the killing and announced on Monday afternoon its initial findings.

The public prosecutor said that two prominent Saudi officials, former deputy intelligence chief Ahmed Al Assiri and Saud Al Qahtani, have not been charged and are released.

Investigations into the pair showed there was no prior intention kill Mr Khashoggi, the prosecutor's statement said.
