A case of New World Screwworm (NWS) was confirmed in a calf in the Texas town of La Pryor, about 48 km northeast of the US-Mexico borde. Plans are also in motion to release millions of sterile screwworm flies, as the females only mate once in their lifetime, and any eggs they lay will be unfertilised and will not hatch.
