Researchers have proposed a new way to treat people infected with the emerging corona virus, through the use of “interferon” in the form of a spray.
Japanese study: Mutant “Omicron” is four times more infectious than “Delta” and escapes the immunity of vaccines
By determining the immune response of nasal cells, the researchers succeeded in finding the way in which the nasal lining interacts with the Corona virus, which prompted them to propose the idea of treatment using an interferon spray.
Dr Christopher Duncan of the College of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University, who led the study, says that its findings could help develop future treatments to prevent infection with the Corona virus.
He believed that the result of the confrontation between the body’s immune system and the Corona virus in the nasal mucosa could be an important factor in dealing with the disease.
He considered that this indicates that the emerging corona virus has ways to sabotage this response in the early stages.
Despite this, Duncan said, once this response is established, interferon begins to impede the replication of the coronavirus.
