A number of people were killed and injured today, Saturday, as a result of a loud explosion in a Shiite-dominated area in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
The Acting Minister of Information in the Taliban government, Zabihullah Mujahid, announced on his Twitter account that at least one civilian was killed and two others were wounded in a car explosion in Dasht Barchi area, inhabited by members of the Shiite Hazara ethnic group, west of Kabul.
Mujahid suggested that the cause of the explosion was due to the outbreak of fire inside the car, indicating that an investigation was launched into the circumstances of the accident.
Meanwhile, a Taliban official, who asked not to be named, confirmed to Reuters that the explosion left six dead and at least seven wounded.
The agency quoted “Taliban” officials and local residents as saying that the accident was caused by the detonation of a minivan by a magnetic bomb.
According to Afghan media reports, the explosion killed Hamid Seghani, a journalist from the “Ariana News” channel.
For his part, a witness told AFP that the explosion occurred near a Taliban checkpoint in the area that had previously witnessed multiple attacks by ISIS, confirming that shooting was heard at the site after the explosion.
